Why intern in Valencia?

Unsure about whether a Turing Scheme internship is for you? Here are 10 reasons why you should consider interning in Valencia!

Overview

Moving to a city in a foreign country is a huge change! You might be looking at interning abroad and wonder what’s really in it for you. This article breaks down 10 benefits of moving to Valencia for our Twin Turing Scheme internship.

Work Experience 💻

The best reason to come to Valencia is because of the work experience you’ll gain! Moving here will enable you to experience a new work environment, gain practical skills, and learn how to communicate with a wide range of people.

For interns working in Digital Marketing, your days can be very varied. Some days you could be creating and editing content for social media, whilst other days you might be arranging meetings and interviewing other interns. Digital marketing internships give you the chance to learn valuable transferable skills, such as good communication and time management

For interns doing TEFL, you’ll learn how to teach English to students who are less familiar with the language. From planning lessons for students of different ages to marking work and giving feedback, this internship will help you build your confidence and communication skills. The teaching qualification will open you up to working anywhere in the world!

Language 🗣️

Interning abroad with the Twin Turing Scheme gives you the opportunity to learn a new language, like Spanish, and practice it every day. This is a totally immersive experience. From speaking Spanish with locals and coworkers to attending dance classes or language exchanges, three months will teach you so much about yourself.

Arts and Culture

It goes without saying that Valencia is full of history and culture, so you’ll return home feeling enriched. From the Torres de Serranos and La Lonja de la Seda to Bombas Gens and the CCCC Gallery, Valencia really has so much to offer. For interns who love the old and the new, Valencia has it all!

New Friends

The Twin Turing Scheme connects you with other interns who are also experiencing Valencia for the first time. Through living together and attending language lessons at the Spanish school, you’ll form brand new friendships and have a built-in support system from the week you arrive! Not to mention all the networking events in the city where you will be able to meet more people and make international friends.

300 Days of Sunshine 🏖️🏐️

Need another reason to intern here? It’s almost always sunny in Valencia! Forget the grey and dreary weather of the UK and put away your vitamin D supplements for three months. Valencia is home to beautiful beaches and parks.

Public Transport and Day Trips 🚊🏞️

Valencia is such a well-connected city, with rechargeable transport cards that enable you to hop on the bus, tram, or metro at any time of day! You can easily visit a nearby town, such as Sagunto, for as little as €6. However, if you want a more structured approach, companies such as Happy Erasmus and the Valencia Language Exchange offer guided excursions to various locations every week. For slightly more, you can visit beautiful locations like Montanejos, Alicante, or Isla Tabarca!

Lots of Events! 🎵

There are so many free and paid events throughout the week in Valencia. After work, you can easily go to a free language exchange or salsa class. Apps like Meetup show you what’s going on each week.

Active City 🏃‍♂️🚲

The city is incredibly active and walkable. From cycling and running to volleyball on the beach, physical activity in Valencia is very popular. Instead of taking the bus everywhere, you might find yourself walking a lot more!

The Food 🥘

Paella first originated in Valencia and is a must-try while you’re here. Not only that, but Valencia offers a variety of other cuisines, from Polish and Italian food to Indian and Japanese. And if you ever feel like you need a bit of the UK, there’s always an Irish bar in the city!

Fully Funded 💷

Did we forget to mention that the Turing Scheme is fully funded? This UK government-led scheme means you will be supported every step of the way, including accommodation and flight costs. All you need to do is work hard, treat the programme seriously (it’s not a holiday), and be professional. It's that simple.
